Since the first Data Extractors (DE) Workshop in Jakarta last November 2015, I've always imagined of having it in the Philippines one day. There was little chance of having the second workshop in Asia again since the first one was there already.
Then it happened.
After more than a year of waiting and weeks of preparation, the 3rd Data Extractors Workshop is finally in Palawan, Philippines. This is my second time organizing an international event in the Philippines. The first one was way back in 2013. The DE Workshop is more demanding though because it's not in Manila hence the added logistical nightmare. Add on to this my work in the office and the current mining brouhaha!!!
A lot of effort was put into it especially now that two workshops have passed. Many of the learnings were applied. We did some of the basics and ice breaking on day 1. We had the hands-on sessions on day 2. We did the planning sessions for day 3.
I won't go into the details of the program. I'd rather share how I feel.
The DE Workshop is not just an event or project. For me, it's a milestone. There was a point when I felt I was failing and that bad news kept piling after the other. I thought of asking my colleagues to postpone. There were so many things happening all at the same time. It wasn't easy. Hell it was challenging. I invested so much emotions in this one. We pulled it off anyway. And I'm so glad we did.
I was the last to leave just to make sure I'm there before everyone does. I came to Palawan on the 27th of February tired and emotionally drained and my closest friends would know why. But I know to myself that I left on the 5th of March stronger and better.
